Against All Odds: American Nurse and Daughter Escape Kidnapping in Haiti and Embrace Freedom
In a heartwarming turn of events, American nurse Alix Dorsainvil and her young daughter have been released from captivity by their kidnappers in Haiti. This news was confirmed by El Roi Haiti, the faith-based non-profit organization that employs Dorsainvil.
In a statement issued by El Roi Haiti, the organization expressed profound gratitude and joy for the safe return of their staff member and her child. The statement read, “It is with a heart of gratitude and immense joy that we at El Roi Haiti confirm the safe release of our staff member and friend, Alix Dorsainvil, and her child who were held hostage in Port au Prince, Haiti. Today we are praising God for answered prayer!”
The organization also extended their thanks to all those who prayed and supported Dorsainvil during her ordeal.
They highlighted the significance of the name “El Roi,” which means “the God who sees” in Hebrew. With a deep sense of faith, the organization conveyed their belief in God’s restorative power and quoted from the Bible: “In his kindness, God called you to share in His eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, He will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation” (1 Peter 5:10).
While expressing their gratitude and faith, El Roi Haiti requested that no attempts be made to contact Dorsainvil or her family during this time of healing and processing.
Dorsainvil and her daughter were employed by El Roi Haiti when they were kidnapped by armed men last week. Witnesses reported that armed men forcibly entered the small brick clinic where Dorsainvil was working and abducted her. Reports indicated that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of $1 million, a distressing occurrence that has become a grim norm amidst the turmoil in Haiti caused by criminal gangs.
The U.S. State Department acknowledged the reported kidnapping, emphasizing the safety of American citizens overseas as their top priority.
The ongoing law enforcement investigation prevents the release of further details regarding the case.
Dorsainvil’s connection with El Roi Haiti runs deep. She had been working as a school nurse for the organization since 2020 and married Sandro Dorsainvil, the program’s director, in 2021. Her ties with Haiti go back to her college days, when she visited the country following the devastating earthquake of 2010. Falling in love with the people and the place, Dorsainvil made several subsequent visits before eventually making Haiti her permanent home.
The community and supporters of El Roi Haiti are relieved and overjoyed by Alix Dorsainvil’s release, grateful for the prayers and faith that have guided her through this harrowing experience.
